Operations & Maintenance
Certified Electrician, Maintenance
Arecibo Observatory, PR
Job Description: Install, maintain, diagnose, repair, modify and test low, medium and high voltage electrical distribution systems, grounding, lightning protection, etc., according to NFPA/NEC70. Responsible for in-field preventative and emergency service of mission critical back-up systems – UPS.

Education:Associate degree from an accredited technical institution in an electrician program and 5 years of experience.

Qualifications: Knowledge of accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools for installation, repair and maintenance trades. Knowledge of Lightning Protection Systems per NFPA 780. Certified Electrician as per Puerto Rico College of Certified Electricians.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Install, service, repair, inspect and diagnose electrical systems and equipment
  • PMs on electrical equipment per documented procedures, manufacturer’s specifications, and NFPA/NEC standards
  • Thorough understanding of electrical distribution from power plant and main electrical sub-stations to end users
  • Must be capable of working in a maintenance environment
  • Troubleshoot a variety of electrical devices on voltages up to 13,200 volts
  • Responsible for electrical and emergency power systems
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
  • Troubleshoot and repair motors, motor control centers, VFD's
  • Respond to electrical emergencies after hours on awkward locations and at Telescope suspended Platform 500 feet above ground
  • Provide technical support to the HVAC technicians

Operations and Maintenance Engineering Manager
Arecibo Observatory, PR
Education: Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline and a minimum of 10 years experience in project and construction management. Experienced in directing all the diverse areas of contractual functions to include cost estimating, planning, scheduling, and implementation.

Job Description: Manages projects and responsible for performance and progress to meet cost, schedules, performance objectives, delivery and reporting requirements. Leads a team in the initiating, planning, controlling, executing, and closing tasks of a project or segment of a project. Knowledgeable of organization, direction, and requirements of the contract efforts. Performs tasks as a specialist in maintenance, applying advanced knowledge of current and developing technologies to innovate, develop and apply unique solutions to a very wide range of complex problems.

Qualifications: Technical experience and working knowledge of Facilities and Systems O&M. Ability to write detailed procedures for equipment maintenance and PM scheduling. Good communication and analytical skills. Must be fluent in English and Spanish for both the written and spoken word. Requires a working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manages project leads on assigned projects and provides management, administrative, and technical guidance.
  • Develops/modifies documented procedures in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications, industry best practices, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Estimates costs of new practices and procedures and prepares relevant reports.
  • Established priorities to ensure tasks are within budget and on schedule.
  • Provides senior level advice in planning, optimizing, and improving facilities and equipment. Devises innovative applications of technology to bring about optimization and improvement.
  • Prepares comprehensive work plans for the development and installation of new equipment or facilities. Ensures work plans are compatible with existing installations and comply with all applicable standards and requirements.
  • Implementation of authorized work plans and monitors progress to ensure compliance with the work plans and verify the results. Advises management of any discrepancies.
  • Advises and guides technologists assigned to the work plans, monitoring their work, and assisting in determining their training requirements.
  • Verifies practices and procedures. Ensures compliance with all applicable standards and requirements, develops, and recommends new practices and procedures.
  • Validates quality control procedures and the frequency of application. Evaluates the results.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
