Operations & Maintenance
General Maintenance Technician
NASA Ames Research Center, CA
Job Description:
  • Basic understanding in the areas of electrical, plumbing, roofing, drywall repair and paint, masonry, flooring, door hardware, and other trades.
  • Ability to understand and apply codes, blueprints, diagrams, and engineering drawings.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and practices, and ability to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts and other heavy equipment.
  • Self-motivated and results oriented, with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service, leadership, and communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for completing repairs and preventative maintenance on several buildings and assets. Specific roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Building and paved surface assessments and repairs
  • Roof and gutter maintenance and repairs, and roof leak containments and clean-ups
  • Annual storm drain clean-outs
  • Drywall, plaster, and paint repairs
  • Flooring repairs and replacement, including tile, VCT, vinyl, laminate, and carpet
  • Window repairs and replacements
  • Testing of life safety systems, including exit signs and lights
  • Man door, roll door, and hardware preventative maintenance and repairs
  • Providing support to other crafts, such as electrical, plumbing, alarms, HVAC, and HAZMAT
Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Qualifications:
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must be able to obtain a NASA badge and maintain access to the workplace facility.
  • A minimum of 4-years of journeyman level work experience in a skilled trade, or related experience.

Hazardous Waste Specialist
NASA Ames Research Center, CA
Education: AA, AS, or related technical school desired. 2 years in safety related field plus 3 years directly related experience.

Job Description: Perform duties related to hazardous materials use, handling, retention, distribution, and disposal.

Qualifications:
  • Hazardous Material Industrial Technician, Haz-Mat Specialist, Asbestos Technician and/or Lead Worker or HAZWOPER is desired.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED, valid California driver’s license, Class A license is required for this position and must be presented upon hire or obtained by the end of the 90-day probationary period.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Actively participates in safety training programs

HSE/Construction Safety Engineer
NASA Ames Research Center, CA
Education: A bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health is desired, but not required. American Red Cross adult CPR/AED/First Aid certificate is required.

Job Description: Applies Safety Standards that embrace a range of subject matters which align directly or indirectly with the safety and protection of staff and subcontractors. Reports to the AFSS Sr. Safety Supervisor.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of HSE/Construction Safety experience performing duties in a construction environment
  • American Red Cross adult CPR/AED/First Aid certificate is required
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Obtain the Fall Prevention Competent Person Certification within 90 days of hire
  • OSHA 30 Construction certification is required at time of hire and will become a condition of employment after hire
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the Construction Project Managers in anticipating, identifying, analyzing and mitigating job safety hazards that are relevant to construction projects through Site Specific Safety Planning and/or through Corrective and/or Preventative Action or completed analysis
  • Support the Construction Project Managers in understanding the significant safety, health and environmental aspects that are relevant to projects; in part will fulfill the role of the OSHA Site Safety Health Officer
  • Continuously evaluate construction projects to maintain an incident and injury free work environment while ensuring compliance with local, state and federal EHS regulations
  • Provide technical expertise and consultation during pre-job planning throughout work activities
  • Conduct safety inspections and document near misses, injuries, and accidents
  • Participate in Emergency Planning
  • Provide on-going communication to supervision and management concerning EHS program performance

HV Electrician I
NASA Ames Research Center, CA
Job Description:
  • Cutting, bending, and treading of metallic conduit
  • Running, termination of, connection of less than 600VAC circuits to circuit breakers
  • Maintenance, repair, bulb and ballast replacement of florescent light fixtures
  • Test and test-documentation of Emergency Exit lights
  • Energy control and Lock-out/Tag-out procedures and operations
  • General Electrical Safety training documentation
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs a variety of electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electric energy
  • Installing repairing any of a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment

HV Electrician II
NASA Ames Research Center, CA
Signing Bonus: $10,000

Job Description: Must demonstrate knowledge of HVAC, electrical and PDM theory and practices sufficient to plan work independently on related distribution equipment. Understanding of, and willingness to comply with, electrical and work safety procedures including National Electrical Code & CAL-OSHA Standards. Ability to handle tools of the trade (multi-meters, ultrasonic probes, vibration screeners, infrared cameras, laser alignment tools, electrical tester), to work in awkward positions of crouching or bending etc. for a period of time, and to perform lifting up to 40 lbs. Must be able to read metering schematic, wiring, installation diagrams, etc. Ability to diagnose electrical and mechanical troubles and then make repairs on equipment. Ability to perform new installations of PDM technologies, if permitted. Must possess a valid California driver's license, a good driving record and the ability to operate automatic transmission vehicles and may operate a high lift truck. Must have and maintain certification in CPR, First Aid training, & Confined Space. Must be available to work overtime and available for callbacks.

Education: High School diploma. Two years journey-level Electrician, including analysis of High Voltage controls circuits for power generating and distribution systems up to 115 kV.

Qualifications: Skilled in the use of hand and power tools common to the trade. Ability to troubleshoot down to the component level. Ability to understand and apply codes, blueprints, diagrams, and engineering drawings.

Maintenance Supervisor
NASA Ames Research Center, CA
Education: Bachelor’s degree or 10 years of hands-on experience in building maintenance or construction. Strong knowledge of building trades, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, alarms, and general maintenance.

Job Description: Responsible for the safe and professional execution of preventative and reactive maintenance tasks and assigned projects at NASA Ames Research Center and Moffett Field, and effectively managing the maintenance workload. The supervisor will direct and supervise the daily activities of unionized tradesmen and specialty contractors in order to ensure that buildings, machinery, and equipment are in proper, safe and reliable operating condition.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Monitor, schedule, and coordinate the safety and quality of work performed by unionized tradesmen and specialty contractors assigned to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Improve the reliability of equipment and machinery essential to critical missions using a Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) approach that includes Predictive Testing and Inspection (PT&I) data gathering and analysis.
  • Create and assign work schedules and ensure that work is completed on time. Assist technicians with coordination, building access, and obtaining proper equipment and materials as needed.
  • Attend frequent job walks and perform regular safety checks, quality checks, and other supervisory tasks as needed, and review work orders for accuracy and completion.
  • Provide administrative and other support activities including policy administration, training and development, recordkeeping, reports, equipment history, etc.
  • Manage resources (labor, equipment, vehicles, parts, materials, etc.) within the assigned budgets and schedules.
  • Work Environment: 60% office work; 40% field work
  • Minimal exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Work Schedule: Regular work hours (Monday – Friday) with infrequent weekend work.
